~Basement Challenge #1 - Metal Shelf~

A few weeks ago I began cleaning out my pantry.  I had waay too much stuff in there. I kept buying things I already had just because I could not see it.  So when I made the menu for the next couple of weeks, I used at least one thing in the pantry for each meal and before I knew it, the pantry was very empty.

So what does this have to do with my basement?  My basement is overflowing with "stuff".  Good stuff - architectural pieces, furniture bits and pieces, shelves, etc.  So to clean it out, I decided to bring up one piece at a time and challenge myself to put it somewhere, make something out of it, or get rid of it.  I was going to give myself a time limit, but that was just too much pressure.  So I'm going to try to do it in about a week.

So this is my challenge piece.

It's a cute shelf, and the color is ok too, but it just seemed a little more shabby than chic.  So I sprayed it with Rustoleum American Heirloom white and hung it in my powder room.

More chic than shabby?

So now I have decoration on a bare wall and a little extra storage for the cost of a can of spray paint.

Basement Challenge #2 - worn out footstool.  Let's see what I can do with this.

I'll be joining some parties~

  1. Your shelf looks so pretty and I just love the print above it!

  2. Great job. Yes, it is amazing what a can of spray paint can do, but what's more important is the vision you had to use that can of spray paint and where to place that shelf.

  7. I really like it! The white looks great! Very shabby chic. :) I wish I had a basement full of cool things . . .
    Thaks for sharing!

  8. Great! I loved your shelf and what you did with it. And who can go wrong with spray paint? I love spray paint! Your finished shelf looks amazing. And I like all your pretty things that you placed on it!

  9. Oh my dear that is a splendid little shelf you got yourself! Where can I find one just like it at? It's amazing what a little spray paint can do, isn't it!

You have a footstool similar to's old...needs a Re-Vamp and just haven't gotten around to it. Hey...that gives me an idea...How about hosting a "footstool" party? That would be a lot of fun!

Come by my place if you get a moment and let me know what you think about this little idea for a partay.

    Blessings for a beautiful weekend!

  10. That turned out adorable! I really like it hanging on the wallpaper and filled with pretties.

  11. Really adorable! wide variety of shelving accessories allow you to maximize your storage space with boxes and bins,or dividers for your metal shelves.
