~Christmas Stocking Tutorial~

Some of you were asking how I made my Christmas stockings, so I thought I would show you.  If you didn't see them, you can read about them here.   On this stocking, I used linen for the solid fabric  and a doily for the cuff.  Most of the designs I just make up as I go along.  But here are the basics.

I traced around a stocking I already had to get the pattern.  Fold the fabric in half and lay the pattern down so you are cutting two stockings-a front and a back.  Cut out.

To make the pattern for the heel and toe, just draw the shape you want on the stocking pattern and cut out.

Cut the pieces out of the contrasting fabric.

Press a small seam allowance to the wrong side of the fabric on the edge you are going to attach to the stocking.

Top stitch close to the edge on the front stocking piece only.

Pin the stocking right sides together.  At this point you will need to insert the loop for hanging.  Stitch.  Turn right side out and press.

If you use a doily or handkerchief for the cuff, cut it in half.

Pin the doily to the inside of the stocking, right side of doily to wrong side of stocking.  Stitch, turn over to the outside , and press.  And there you have it.  The design possibilities are endless.  Just have fun.  But now I have an extra stocking.  Maybe I should include it as part of a giveaway?
