Turquoise Cabinet with Homemade Chalk Paint

O.K., I know it's really a buffet, but I thought it would look so pretty in a bedroom.

And doesn't it look pretty with pink?  Looks like I forgot to take a before picture.  It was your typical wood with newspaper glued to the top.  As I was trying to remove the paper, it occurred to me that years from now people will be stripping all this painted furniture, working desperately to remove all the stuck on book pages and sheet music, all the while wondering why anyone would paint furniture with such ugly colors.

But today, I find the color fresh and happy.

While we are on the subject of paint colors, this was painted with homemade chalk paint using valspar weathered glass.

The details on this piece are so wonderful.  I took this to my new space at Big Bend Antique Gallery in Maplewood, Missouri.  The managers there told me the best selling furniture colors are white, gray, and black.  I didn't listen.

  16. Aqua is so cheerful and fun to me. It seems make reds, yellows, greens, and pinks just pop and dazzle. And it looks fantastic with white! Great vignette!

  18. I agree that sometime in the future, the painted look will go out of style. Yet for now, I love it too. I think white, gray, and black are "safe colors" which is why they sell the best. However, I love the blue shade you used. It's soft, yet I like that it has enough punch to stand out too. I'm sure someone will think it's perfect for their home. I'm going to have to get around to trying to make my own chalk paint because I have several pieces of furniture for my own home I want to paint.

  20. Who cares if it's a hutch of some kind. That's the cutest thing I've seen in a while and you picked a great color! Did you paint it black first or is that just really dark wood underneath. I would love this way more than gray, black or white. Good work. I found this post at Cowgirl Up at Cedar Hill Ranch. Hope you'll stop and see me at Quirky Vistas.
