A Thrifting Oops

What a great find.  Only $3.00.  At least I thought it was.

I didn't realize until I got  home that the leg was totally glued together.  Oops!  So now what?   I'm not going to spend time and money to fix it up.  I don't want to donate it somewhere so someone else makes the same mistake that I did.  And I can't even think of a use for any of the parts I could salvage.  Off to the trash?  Say it isn't so.  If you have any ideas, let me know.  Otherwise, lesson learned.

  1. I saw a photo in a mag where they took the legs off and hung the seat and arms part to the wall as kind of a shelf. Not sure if you can do that with it. What a bummer and man how I've been there!

  2. Janet, I saw a darling chair at the Flea Mart in our town. I almost bought it, but it had other "problems". They had cut the legs down to make it a child-size chair. It was SO cute.

  3. Don't throw it away....you could cut the legs down and use it for a variety of things. Planter on your patio is what I was thinking you could turn this into. Even use it as a reading chair to read to little ones if it was smaller.

  5. well, will the glue hold? I think it looks like gorilla glue and if that's the case it will totally hold. Just apply some pressure to see if it will hold & if doesn't give at all then just paint it up / sand it & continue on :)

    ??am I crazy?? don't answer that! ;)

  6. Just use it as an accent chair. Put something cut on it and don't let anyone sit on it.....unless they are little.

  7. I would paint it ( the wood) and use it somewhere. I had a favorite chair that had had it's back leg broken off during a move. It was glued back on with wood glue and let set for a while. It held up for at least 15 more years!!! It may still be going, as I finally gave it away.

  8. If it's still STURDY with the glued leg, what's the problem? Maybe 'reinforce' the glued leg with a brace or bracket from underneath, then proceed as originally planned. It may have to be used for 'decorative purposes only, and not to SIT on, but it's such a lovely chair! Broken leg and all!
