Toile Table Slipcover

I know tables usually get a "cloth" or a "skirt", but a slipcover just seemed more fitting for this project.

I bought this table at Home Goods on super clearance.  Although I like the decorative painting on top, it doesn't really match my decor.  Two choices - paint or cover.  Since I really liked the finish on the table I decided to make a slipcover.

I cut a circle out of the ticking fabric for the top,  sewed cording around the circle, added a 5 inch band of toile around that, and sewed on more cording.

I then cut a 10 inch band of ticking and formed 2 inch pleats.  Sewed that on and Ta Da! A easy and inexpensive (the fabric was leftover) side table.

Of course " you know who"  had to be the center of attention.

  2. That is so totally cool! Who would have thought to do that? I love the look of the toile, and how very clever to use it as it as a table slipcover. I looks so very romantic and pulled together. Gorgeous! I also love the ambiance of the room as a whole. Your accessories and decorations are perfect! I'm so glad I'm going to be able to show you off and brag about you all day long. You also have a new follower...me! You come and show you wonderful ideas every week at the boardwalk bragfest... Isn't it fun to brag?

  5. I love this idea! I have a round table that I inherited from my MIL...I have never really liked it but still couldn't part with it. This will be a great way for me to give it a new life. Thanks for the idea (and my mom is an excellent seamstress so when I say I'm going to do this I really mean she's going to do it...she just doesn't know it yet!!)

  6. Hi Janet,
    thanks so much for leaving your nice comment today! I think we have a lot in common. You know my laundry room, kitchen chairs, and a few other things are all done in that same red toile!! It looks fabulous on that table! You certainly do a great job sewing especially on one big circle!!!

  7. oh, and I have the same white pitcher you have sitting on your newly covered table! I found it w/ the matching basin bowl at goodwill a couple years ago for $15! I about broke my neck lunging for it after the clerk set it down! :o}
